Cameron Smits - C Consolation Champion
In the snow and cold, the team went to West Allis to participate in the Milwaukee Handball Classic. They had the opportunity to play against players from some of the top handball colleges in the country in Minnesota State University and Lake Forest College as well as face off against top players from Minneapolis and New York. Everyone gave it their all with almost every loss ending in a tiebreaker. However, the player of the tournament goes to Cameron Smits!
Cameron had the tough draw of playing one of the best players in the C division in the first round. He fought valiantly winning the second game and taking the game into a tiebreaker. Even down 10-5 in the tiebreaker he continued to fight before eventually falling 11-8. In the consolation division he really turned it on, only giving up 4 points in the C consolation final! He received a ton of praise from many players in the tournament especially after learning he's only been playing for 3 months. Congrats on an excellent first tournament Cameron!
Additional shoutouts go to the following players:
Rowan Karrer: Rowan played great in his first ever tournament match against a MNST player who had over a year of experience over him before eventually falling in a tight tiebreaker.
Jose Munguia: Jose was the first player from the modern club to participate in the A division. He played very well taking the 4 seed to a tiebreaker in his first match. This is likely the highest seeded player a UWM student current or former has ever taken a game off of in the over 30 year history of handball at UWM!
David Jensen: Although David got injured before the tournament, he was vital in the success of the tournament helping out in many ways including running the tournament desk solo at times.
